Morning Activities

As the first light of the sun touches Mauna Kea, the island comes to life. Activities such as sunrise yoga and paddling lessons are planned to help start a day of films and discussion on an invigorating note. Prior year activities currently shown here, to be updated closer to the 2020 event.

Mauna Kea Beach Hotel 
7-8 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2-Friday, Jan. 4

Sunrise yoga with instructor Chelsea Morriss of Waimea Yoga. Classes meet at the upper lawn by the lu‘au grounds, and if conditions permit, will move to the beach. Come enjoy first light on the ocean and an invigorating start to the day. Bring your own mat or towel, and a water bottle.

Kawaihae Canoe Club
6:15 a.m.-7:45 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2-Friday, Jan. 4

Sunrise paddling lessons in a traditional outrigger canoe provide a true island experience. Hosted by members of Kawaihae Canoe Club. Participants must sign up in advance, know how to swim and sign a waiver, recognizing they understand there is some risk to any ocean-based activity.

Participation is limited. Please sign up at the Festival Hospitality Desk at Kahilu Theatre by 5 p.m. the evening prior, or contact the Festival Office at 808-854-6095. Participants should arrive 15 minutes early.
